Why This Resume Works

This resume scores well with ATS systems and hiring managers because it follows three principles:

1
Quantified quality outcomes in every bullet

Bug catch rates, regression reduction, test coverage numbers, and time saved. No vague descriptions of "testing activities."

2
Specific tools and frameworks named

Playwright, Selenium, k6, JMeter, Cucumber. ATS keyword matching depends on exact tool names.

3
Clean, single-column format

Standard section headings that ATS parsers expect. No tables, columns, or graphics that break parsing.

Section-by-Section Breakdown

Summary

Keep it to 2-3 sentences. Lead with years of experience and your testing specialty (automation, performance, security). Include your biggest quality impact and the scale of systems you have tested. Skip generic phrases like "detail-oriented QA professional" and show the impact instead.

Technical Skills

Group skills by category (Automation Frameworks, Languages, CI/CD, Methodologies). List 15-20 tools and technologies you can confidently discuss. Include both automation tools and testing approaches, as many job descriptions look for methodology keywords like BDD, exploratory testing, and shift-left testing.

Tip: Mirror the exact terms from the job description. If they say "Playwright" don't just write "browser automation." If they mention "REST Assured," include it alongside Postman.

Experience

Use this formula for every bullet point:

[Action verb] + [what you tested or built] + [tool/framework used] + [measurable quality outcome]

Start bullets with strong verbs: Designed, Built, Automated, Identified, Reduced, Integrated, Validated. Avoid "Responsible for testing" or "Helped with QA" since they say nothing about your contribution.

3-5 bullets per role. Lead with your highest-impact quality achievements.

Education

For test engineers with 3+ years of experience, education goes last and stays minimal: degree, school, year. If you hold an ISTQB certification or AWS Certified Developer, add a Certifications section above Education instead.

Key Skills for Test Engineer Resumes

Based on analysis of thousands of job postings, these are the most frequently required skills:

Selenium Cypress Playwright Python Java API Testing JMeter CI/CD Jenkins Test Automation SQL Git REST APIs Agile/Scrum Performance Testing Docker BDD/Cucumber JIRA

Common Mistakes on Test Engineer Resumes

  • Describing testing activities instead of outcomes - "Performed regression testing" tells recruiters nothing. "Built a regression suite catching 92% of bugs before production" shows real impact.
  • Listing only manual testing experience - most test engineer roles in 2026 expect automation skills. Even if your current role is mostly manual, highlight any scripts, tools, or frameworks you have built or used.
  • Omitting the scope of what you tested - "Wrote automated tests" is vague. Include the number of test cases, endpoints covered, or concurrent users simulated to show scale.
  • Ignoring CI/CD and DevOps context - modern test engineers integrate tests into pipelines. If you have set up test stages in Jenkins, GitHub Actions, or GitLab CI, highlight that experience prominently.
